Labone

Greater Accra, Ghana

Labone occupies a sweet spot in Accra's residential hierarchy: close enough to the city centre to feel connected, yet leafy and low-rise enough to feel like an escape from it. Sandwiched between the coastal Labadi Road and the Ring Road East, this compact and characterful neighbourhood has long been a favourite of artists, academics, journalists, and creative professionals who want good bones in an old neighbourhood rather than a shiny new gated estate. Labone's streets wind pleasantly past bungalows half-hidden by tropical gardens, and corner stores rub shoulders with design studios and excellent restaurants.

Lifestyle

Living in Labone

Labone's restaurant and cafe scene is one of the most characterful in Accra. Buka Restaurant, celebrated for its West African comfort food and warm communal ambiance, is a Labone institution. The Brick House, Accra Chop Bar, and various smaller eateries keep the neighbourhood fed and socialised. Oxford Street in Osu is adjacent and provides shopping, bars, and street food in abundance. The beach is under ten minutes away, making Saturday morning swims a genuine lifestyle option. Labadi Beach hosts popular weekend events and music nights easily accessible to Labone residents.

Amenities

Everyday amenities in Labone are excellent. Multiple supermarkets including Koala, MaxMart, and several neighbourhood grocers ensure fresh produce is never far. Banks and ATMs are plentiful along the Labone and Cantonments corridors. Healthcare is well covered: the Klinikum Clinic on the Ring Road and various private clinics handle routine care. The Police Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, and Nyaho Medical Centre are all within 15-25 minutes for more serious medical needs. Dental, optical, and physiotherapy services are accessible within a short drive.

Schools

Labone is well positioned for education, with a good range of private nurseries and primary schools within walking distance or a short drive. The Ghana International School and Roman Ridge School are under 15 minutes away, and Lincoln Community School is similarly accessible. Several high-performing private secondary schools operate in the Osu-Labone corridor. The University of Ghana at Legon is 20-25 minutes by car.

Transport

Labone's central location is one of its defining advantages. The Ring Road East and Cantonments Road provide direct access to the CBD, Osu, Cantonments, and beyond. Journey times to Accra Central average 15-25 minutes, and the Airport is around 20 minutes away. Trotros along the Ring Road and Labadi Road offer frequent public transport, and Uber and Bolt are extremely responsive throughout the neighbourhood.
